1. At "A to Z Business
Directory", the publisher reserves the absolute right to turn
down advertising at their sole discretion. This is common industry
practice. It is understood that A to Z Business Directory reserves the
right to refuse at its sole discretion, upon professional, ethical considerations,
any advertising submitted and such option to refuse is made a part of
this contract.
2. We usually tell people why we have rejected an ad, but we have no
obligation to explain other than to say that the publisher has rejected
the ad. We always quote the publisher as the source for rejection.
Again, this is common industry practice. Also, ad rejection is not debatable,
unless we have asked the advertiser to resubmit with changes.
3. This policy deals with rejection for professional and ethical reasons,
not with rejection for credit and financial reasons.
4. Both display ads and
classified ads fall under this policy. As a point of information,
we are at least as likely, if not more likely, to have questionable ads
in the classified area from private parties then we are for large companies.
One reason is that private parties are often not aware of the legal and
ethical issues involving sound advertising.
5. Our advertising rejection
policy must be applied judiciously and evenhandedly, it is meant to:
* Protect our readers from false or misleading advertising, and thus protect
the good name and business reputation of our business site.
* Protect us from possible lawsuits filed by irate readers who feel that
by running the misleading ad, we are party to the deception.
* Protect our legitimate advertisers from being lumped with frauds and
crooks in our advertising columns.
6. Here are some of the common
reasons for rejecting advertising at A to Z Business Directory:
*Any business, service or product
that could be understood as pornographic in nature, link to or
be associated with business, services or products of pornographic in
nature will not be accepted.
* The service or product being advertised appears to be in violation
of the State of Arizona or United States law.
Examples: cancer cures, claims for other medical cures, advertising drugs
not cleared by the FDA.
* This service or product being advertised is misrepresented as offered
by the United States government or an official
(or nonprofit association) agency when in fact a private business is involved.
Washington DC return address and phony sounding official names are to
be carefully scrutinized.
* The ad, though entirely innocent, is in violation of fair housing
advertising guidelines.
* Political advertising that does not list the official name and address
of the placing individual or committee.
* Advertising that does not give the name of the advertising business
or does not tell what the line of business the advertising advertiser
is in. Also, advertising that is not let the public know how to contact
the advertiser. Beware of 800 number ads that ask the public to give name,
address, status and phone number - but does not let the person know who
is asking the information, or where they may be contacted.
* Advertising that libels, slanders, or invades the privacy of individuals.
Advertising that makes unsupported attack charges against competitors
or opponents.
* Advertising that would rip-off our readers, or would make them
feel ripped off. Example, the $5 device that guarantees you'll never run
down your car battery by leaving your lights on. (The device was a colored
plastic clothes pin on your key ring to remind you to turn lights off.)
* Advertising that uses scare tactics to prey on the old,
un-informed, or ignorant and get them to contract on unneeded or greatly
overpriced services
7. By accepting an ad, we are
by no means obligated to continue running the ad if the site it points
to changes after we post it on our site.
